The current situation in the world has plonked a giant mirror in front of each of us. Suddenly we are faced with ourselves. Instead of running around from one social event to another, from one school function to another, from one trip to another – we have been brought to a social standstill, many of us facing more than our usual responsibilities and others left with more hours in the day than they have work for; all of this against the backdrop of unequalled uncertainty about the future.
It forces us to face a couple of questions such as: What motivates me? Why am I doing what I’m doing? When is this going to end?
When the variables keep changing, I suggest we stick the only constant we can trust: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” Matthew 24:35 (NIV) and “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 (ESV)
I have read many positive and encouraging blogs and articles about motivating yourself to be fit and focused and those are all brilliant ideas, yet, sometimes we find ourselves in a place where we could not be bothered about someone else’s good advice on how to improve our lives, where life pushes down hard on us and we don’t have answers for some basic questions.
These are the moments we need more than ourselves, we need God’s unshakable truth as a foundation for what we do and think.
I suggest that you read the following verses aloud, as the Word of God is active and powerful and full of creative power. May it stir faith in your heart so that you will know beyond any doubt that God loves you and wants to strengthen you:
Proverbs 18:10 (ESV) “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”
1 Corinthians 15:57-58 (TPT) “…stand firm and secure. Live your lives with an unshakable confidence. We know that we prosper and excel in every season by serving the Lord, because we are assured that our union with the Lord makes our labor productive with fruit that endures.”
Psalm 55:22 (ESV) “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”
Psalm 23:1-6 (ESV) “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. …”
“For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.” Proverbs 3:26 (NKJV)
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13 (ESV)
We can be confident that God will sustain us! There are peace and joy for those who put their trust in Him. May you have the courage to turn away from fear and uncertainty and turn your eyes towards Jesus, the One who has the power to change you from the inside out! “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Phil 1:6 (NIV)
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Heb 4:16 (NIV)
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”Jer 17:7 (NIV)
“The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever.” Isaiah 32:17(NIV)
“ …we have boldness through him, and free access as kings before the Father because of our complete confidence in Christ’s faithfulness.” Eph 3:12 (TPT)
The more we walk with God, the more He reveals Himself to us as faithful, unchanging, loving, powerful, the miracle worker, the light in the darkness, the prince of peace. I’ve included a link to the beautiful song: Waymaker” at the bottom of this post. May our confidence be in Him!
